Summer is here and vacations are on the horizon
Wednesday, June 27th, 2007Hello again everyone. It is great to be here on a fine summer evening as I put off the ‘challenge’ of packing for a five day family vacation to Maryland and Pennysylvania. While I’m looking forward to the trip for a variety of reasons, packing for a four year old, my husband, and myself can be daunting.
Fortunately, this trip is going to be especially rewarding. My niece is getting married on Saturday and I’ll be able to share in her special day with my husband’s family, and my very good friend back in Maryland, Kim, has gotten in touch with friends I haven’t seen since, well, since my wedding in 2001 and we’re getting together for dinner while I’m in town.
Long before I met my husband, I volunteered at a local community theater in Harford County. I spent quite a few years building sets, running sound, acting as a stage manager, props mistress, curtain puller, and spotlight technician, as well as playing very minor parts in plays when they needed a stand in or as an extra in two musicals, Finian’s Rainbow and Li’l Abner. It was hard but fun and being a techy could be a lot of work when we had to get a set ready for opening night, wait on full-dress rehearsals, and start again. And, admittedly, it was a little sad when a show closed and we had to strike the set in a few hours that had taken weeks to prepare.
During that same time I became friends with theater technicians, managers, light designers, dancers, actors/actresses, and set designers, and I had a blast. I wouldn’t change a day or a moment of that time. I still miss my friends and have tried to keep in touch, but being a wife, mother, author, and the president of an RWA chapter has kept me pretty busy. Well, let’s face it, life keeps everyone busy, and I am so glad that I’ll have the chance to catch up with good friends, dine on good food, and laugh about days gone by.
While I realize that this post has little to do with Seductive Persuasion, I do plan on posting more on the book soon. I can’t wait to tell you all about Aisley Stevenson, a village healer who must overcome her fears of being accused of witchcraft and find her happily ever after with a man whose thoughts she can hear and who bears an uncanny resemblance to a black leopard patrolling the forest near her home. The question is, can she trust her heart to a man who is far more than human?
Additionally, my husband’s mother and step father are also graciously taking our whole family to Key West in just a few weeks to celebrate a college graduation and that will be another great summer vacation. You can bet I’ll enjoy the trip and I’ll post on that, too!
That said, since summer is here, I thought I’d end by asking about your summer. What books have you’ve been reading that have swept you away while sitting by the pool, or on the beach, or at the Cape? Share some summer memories, summer stories, whatever you wish, and I’ll be sure to respond when I’m able.
Respectfully,
Frances Stockton
